Day 15 - T-shirt Flowers

It took me a couple of times to get this one the way I wanted it to look but the end result was totally worth the cursing I spewed out while I was trying to get it just perfect!  These t-shirt flowers are adorable and will make a perfect accent for my t-shirt scarves.  I also made a headband out of it but it seems a little heavy.  Guess I'll need to borrow a baby because I sure don't plan on having a little model any time soon!!!  Natalie...Choloe...where are you girls when I need you???

Here's my teeth-gritting process:

Get an old (or new) t-shirt and cut a strip off of the bottom of the t-shirt about 1 inch in width.  I cut the ends off so I actually have two strips (front and back of tee) instead of one really long one.  

Sew a straight line down the center of the strip of fabric.  You are gathering the fabric so you need to make your stitch much looser than normal.

To gather fabric, take the string on the back side of the fabric and pull it.  You'll have to spread the gathering out and work at it to get it right.  My final fabric strip was about 10 inches long.

Then just fold the strip in half at the stitch and start rolling it around each other (I didn't get a good picture of this because I needed both hands!) and glue with fabric glue to a piece of felt or fabric.  It takes a couple of hours to dry so don't plan on using it right away. 

And ta-da!  You have your beautiful t-shirt flower!

Day 14 - "I Dig You" Valentine's

How fitting that my blog on Easton's Valentine's goodies for his little friends is the 14th pin!!  I didn't even plan it that way!

I had searched on Pinterest a while back for some ideas and this one was runner-up to the oh so cute sucker photo idea but I determined that I couldn't pull that off with a 20 month old so we rounded up some shovels and M&M's and are going to let everyone know how much we dig them!

These were so fun to make!  I didn't even break out a bunch of my fancy scrapbook tools to prove you don't need all that stuff to make these work.

Here's how I made our Valentine shovels:

I went to Michael's for my shovels.  It's pretty early in the season so the only ones they had in were these fun multi-colored ones.  Not the white ones I REALLY wanted but they will do the job!

The other supplies you will need are:

-Cellophane goody bags

-Valentine's Ribbon

-Stamps (to stamp "I Dig You")

-Ink (I used Red)

-Sheet of Scrapbook paper

-Scissors

1) Cut your circles out of your scrapbook paper.  I found a circle about 2 inches in diameter and traced mine then cut them out.  I then cut two lines on the side of the circles so I could "thread" my ribbon through.

2) Next you just stamp your saying on the circles.

3) Thread your ribbon through the sides of the circle so that the ribbon goes behind the circle.

4) Tie the ribbon around the cellophane sack

5) Deliver to your sweetheart!!

Day 13 - Tuscan Pasta

I'm kind of feeling like telling you guys this was a let down BUT the key piece is that we aren't really an alfredo sauce kind of family.  I used to think I didn't discriminate against carbs but if the sauce on it is an alfredo I tend to shy away from it.  For some reason I thought this would be different - the picture made it seem  SO enticing!

Ok, let's recap - I'd probably recommend that you make this if you like alfredo.  We just weren't fans because we're red pasta sauce kind of people.  :)

Day 12 - Rolo Pretzel Bites (with a Valentine's twist)

These little numbers are YUMMY!  I'm pretty sure that they will be gone by the time the sun sets tomorrow and hopefully Justin and Easton will help eat them up (or I'm in trouble)!

I had these at our infamous Bunco night this past Thursday and had them pinned on my Cooking board and just had to make them up!  They were so, so, SO easy and will be perfect treats for Easton's little friends!

You need butter snap (square) pretzels, a couple of packages of Rolo's and a bag of M&M's

Heat your oven to 350 degrees.  Lay out your pretzels and place a Rolo on each pretzel.

Place in the oven for 3 minutes or so until the Rolo melts a little.  Take them out of the oven and place a M&M into the center of each Rolo and press down.  Put in the refrigerator to cool.  

That's it!  Just try not to eat them ALL in one setting!  :)

Day 11 - Ruffled Apron

First of all - whoever wrote that lame post yesterday should be fired!  :)  Ha ha ha!  Ok, here's my excuse...I was working on TODAY'S post yesterday but didn't get it finished then had Bunco last night and well, Misti served an amazing course of yummy food and a mixed drink with Cake Vodka...needless to say my post last night was a result of much needed rest and a full tummy!

So...to make up for the disappointment yesterday I've got a REALLY fun pin that I finished up for today.  Take a look at this ruffled apron!!!  It was fairly easy to make.  I did make some changes on how I put it together from how the gal who made the pin did it.  My top piece is a little different than hers...easier to put on.  :)  To see the original pin click on the "Follow me on Pinterest" tab over to the right and it's on my "Crafties" board.

I WILL be selling these on my Etsy site.  This particular apron is kid's sized.  The adult apron will have an additional ruffle and will have longer strings.

Day 10 - Receiving Blanket

Hey everyone!  I'm going to make this short and sweet because of many reasons but mostly because it was Bunco night and I didn't' prepare myself...hence a short post with a few spelling errors.  I worked on a FANTASTIC post today but didn't quite get it done (because of my OCD tendencies) so I'm showing you my other creation for the day.

This was probably the easiest thing in the world to make!

You simply cut two printed fabrics out the same shape and then cut your batting to match.  To sew, lay the batting down first, one print wrong side up then the other print wrong side down.  Sew with a quarter inch seam allowance, leaving 3-4 inches gap on one side so you can easily turn it inside out.  Trim your edges with pinking shears.  Turn inside out.  Iron.  Top stitch the top with a 1/8" seam allowance, tucking the edges of the gap in.  And vowla!!!  You have a burp cloth!

Day 9 - Heartbreaker tee

This shirt will break boys' hearts...even if it is just your sweeties daddy!  :)  This shirt is the cuter than a bug's ear (which, no, I haven't seen before but still...).   It was a little time consuming (I was silently whispering Spanish curse words while I was sewing the lines) but well worth it.  Who wouldn't wear this!

I think I'm going to make ME one and do it similar to the pin on Pinterest where it's a night shirt.  How fun...and LOVEly.
